Sunday is For Reading

Hi Everyone,

How are you? It is hard to believe that it is the middle of September and football weekends are back. Yesterday, Mom and I watched not 1, but 2 Great Egrets enjoying a late lunch out back. Next to them, about 3ft away, was a Great Blue Heron. It was incredible. We watched them for an hour, just peacefully enjoying their meals and having a few stare-downs. In the middle, a few turtles kept up a steady pace of picking the palm fruit off the ground and carrying it back to the lake for their friends and family.

This afternoon, the turtles are back at it. I am hoping the cooler air will arrive soon, and we can enjoy nature’s beauty, while sitting outdoors. (Maybe even take a few pics… maybe.)

Today, I have my planner out, trying to get things organized. I am also trying to catch up on my reading. I am starting a book that most everyone has raved about… it was released earlier this year, and the sequel has just been announced. What is it, you might ask?

The House on Sunshine Corner

By: Phoebe Mills

(The Sunshine Corner #1)

Abby Engel is making her dreams come true. She lives in the home that was her childhood safe spot, with her grandmother. She owns Sunshine Corner, watching the town’s adorable children, while prepping to open a preschool. The only thing left in her master plan, is a family to call her own. Carter Hayes has returned home, only for a few weeks, to help his sister. He is determined not to be trapped in the small town, because his dreams are close to happening in Las Vegas. However, when he is thrown in the path of his ex-girlfriend, Carter begins to question everything. Will these two driven people find a way to come together, or are they destined for heartbreak, once again?

This debut novel is adorable. The entire cast of characters is lovely, and readers will be anxious for updates on everyone, in book two. Phoebe Mills does a good job, showing the other side of sunshine, with pregnancy, owning a small business, and chasing dreams. Though a tad repetitive at times, the story is impossible to put down. Readers will be rooting for the main characters. This is a must-read for fans of small-town romance.

Sunday is for Reading

Hi Everyone,

This was a slow week for me, I was in a lot of pain, and very exhausted, so not much besides work was completed.

Since I couldn’t hold a hardback, I finished reading The House on Sunshine Corner by Phoebe Mills. This debut will be released on Tuesday, and my review will be posted that morning. (I think you all will really enjoy this one.)

I am in the middle of Gone for Good by Joanna Schaffhausen. This is the first in a new series about a serial killer who seems to have returned, after a long hiatus. This one is very good.

Earlier this month, I posted my bookmail on Instagram and asked everyone to vote for what book to read next. Not a Happy Family by Shari Lapena won. Today, I will be posting this week’s mail, and we will see which title will win.

What have you all been reading this week?

An Extravagant Death

By: Charles Finch

(Charles Lennox #14)

When Charles Lennox is forced to travel abroad, he is exposed to the dark underbelly of New York and the lavish lifestyle of Newport. The debutante season is off to a rough start, when a young girl is found dead. Will the detective be able to help the family find answers, or has the wise sleuth been duped?

The heart of the story is spent on Lennox reflecting on old cases, and feeling stumped that he can’t solve this one crime. While this may flow better for readers who have read all the books in order, it will leave others questioning which book they should read first. The author does a brilliant job of bringing the sites and sounds, of early America, to life.
