Hi Everyone,
Last night’s Great American Read focused on villains, which is apparently a subject that I am not well-read. I love thrillers and mysteries, but I tend to shy away from horror. (I have to be in the mood for a good scare.) So here’s my breakdown from last night’s featured books:
Series that I love:
Harry Potter
Book that I read and did not like:
Frankenstein (I really do not like the aspect of ripping apart bodies)
Book that my Mom and I want to read:
Rebecca (the passage they shared was SPOOKY. Sounds perfect for October.)
Books that I want to read:
Moby Dick (I have read passages, during my Lit classes, but I want to read the whole thing)
Gone Girl
Handmaid’s Tail (this has been on my list for a long time)
A Game of Thrones (I am waiting for the right time to start this lengthy series.)
Beloved
Alice in Wonderland (Neither Mom nor I, can remember if I ever read this book. I know the story, I have seen the movie… but did I ever read it. Or did I read a younger edited version. Hmm.)
How did you do with last night’s villains?
Enjoy!

About the Book:
Erno Oliveri made sure to be on set for his daughter’s cook-off appearance on Sunny Side Up with Brett and Carmell. Or as it’s now known, Sunny Side Up with Carmell and Brett—since the ambitious young Carmell seems to have the producer and station owner eating out of her hand. But the important news is that Sherry has bested the competition with her spicy toasted chickpea and almond appetizer and clinched the spatula-shaped trophy. It’s her shining moment—until everything goes dark.
A quick-moving storm has knocked out power to the studio—and when the lights come back up, Carmell is at her desk with a sharp object lodged in her neck. The weapon is an unusual tool, used by craftsmen who make hooked rugs. Has someone taken corporate backstabbing to a new level, and framed Erno in the process? If Sherry’s going to protect her dad and their family name, she has to find out where he was when the lights went out…

ABOUT THE BOOK:
When Libby and Bernie Simmons agree to cater a wedding for Natasha and Boris, Susie Katz ‘s two Russian blue cats, the sisters think, it’s weird, but they’ve done weird before. It’s to be a small wedding, six guests only, but a deluxe one. As the date nears, Bernie and Libby begin to understand why Susie Katz is not well- loved in town. A self-made multi-millionaire, she thinks that her money entitles her to do whatever she wants to whomever she wants.
The day of the wedding dawns and, despite Bernie and Libby’s trepidations, things seem to be going well, or at least as well as can be expected, for a wedding involving a twelve- cat wedding party, not counting the bride and groom. Then someone plays a nasty practical joke as the reception is about to begin and it all goes to hell. The next thing Bernie and Libby know they’re discovering Susie’s body in the study of her recently renovated mansion. Now, they must solve her murder and solve it quickly before they’re arrested for interfering with a police investigation. But which of the guests is responsible? It has to be one of them, since Susie only invited her ‘best enemies’ to the party…

Hi Everyone,
During last night’s Great American Read, they discussed Heroes. My Mom declared that I must like heroes, because I knew more about this selection of books, than last week’s topic. Unlike last week, there was not a single book that jumped out and said, READ ME NOW. However, there were two books that have been on my wish list for years.
Books that I have read and enjoyed:
The Hunger Games series
The Alex Cross series (I have read some, not all)
The Help (I am in the middle of it right now, and I loved the movie)
The Giver
Books that I have read, but did not like:
1984 (This has to with the fact that 3 years of school equalled 5 Orwell projects. I was beyond done with all Orwell books.)
Charlotte’s Web (I was shocked! I loved the movie, but Mom says I did not like the book. So now I need to read it as an adult, so I know why.)
Books that I want to read:
The Hunt for Red October
Don Quixote (I read passages for various Lit classes, but I want to read the whole thing.)
What about you? Are you a fan of heroes? Which books were your favorites?
Enjoy!

Forever Fudge Release Day!
About the Book:
It’s Labor Day weekend, the official end of the tourist season, but things are hotter than ever on quaint, historic Mackinac Island, as a TV murder mystery pilot is being filmed among the tree-lined streets, horse-drawn carriages, and fudge shops. Best of all, hunky Hollywood heartthrob Dirk Benjamin is prepping to play the part of police officer Rex Manning – so he needs to get to know the local business owners, including a flustered but delighted Allie McMurphy.
When Allie and her curious pup, Mal, discover a dead man in the alley way behind The Historic McMurphy Hotel and Fudge Shop, the murder is definitely not part of the script. The victim’s position makes it clear the killer wanted Allie to find the body. And the note he leaves her is clearly the start of a vicious game of cat and mouse. Drawn into a chess match with a devious killer, Allie must keep her wits about her – and avoid being distracted by show-biz shenanigans – in order to outsmart this madman and stop him from killing again!
Hi Everyone,
Last night, Mom, the boys, and I all watched the Great American Read, as they discussed books about finding one’s identity. (Coming of Age novels.) In one episode, they covered 3 of my absolute favorites, inspired me to grab onto a new book immediately, and add three more titles to my One Day List.
Hi Everyone,
We were truly blessed. We did not receive the worst part of the storm. Right now, we are all dealing with flooding, due to the lingering bands of thunderstorms. However, again, we were blessed. All my thoughts and prayers are with those in North Carolina and those that will be affected by the flooded rivers in the coming weeks.
So let’s talk books. As you might have guessed, I spent the last few days, absorbing books. I read some truly great books, that I will be sharing with you this week and next. (You really do NOT want to miss out on next week! I have some fun things planned for you all!)
Today, I want to discuss The Martian by Andy Weir. Have you read it yet?
