Hurricane Florence Reading Update #1

Hi Everyone,

We were truly blessed. We did not receive the worst part of the storm. Right now, we are all dealing with flooding, due to the lingering bands of thunderstorms. However, again, we were blessed. All my thoughts and prayers are with those in North Carolina and those that will be affected by the flooded rivers in the coming weeks.

So let’s talk books. As you might have guessed, I spent the last few days, absorbing books. I read some truly great books, that I will be sharing with you this week and next. (You really do NOT want to miss out on next week! I have some fun things planned for you all!)

Today, I want to discuss The Martian by Andy Weir. Have you read it yet?

The Martian is a book that I have wanted to read for a bit. (I am not a big science fiction fan, but I liked the premise of this book.) However, I put it out of my mind and read numerous other books. (I am sure you can all relate!) When I studied the list for the Great American Read, I recognized the title and it gave me the push to add that book to the top of my list. Luckily, my library had the ebook available, so I added it to my hurricane preparations. (A full e-reader, stack of books, and reading light are vital.)

Once I started it, I could not put it down! It was incredible! I loved the sarcasm and I enjoyed the science. (I love books where you are able to learn things.) I had to remind myself that it wasn’t real, because the entries felt real. I know it is labeled a science fiction novel, it to me, it was truly more a survivalist novel. The suspense of will he survive is incredible. So, if you enjoy books where the main character has to battle the elements and go against all the odds, I highly recommend this book. I am sort of sadden that it took me so long to read.

Now my only question, is whether or not to watch the movie.

I will give you all more updates, and complete reviews later this week. I just had to share my initial thoughts on this incredible novel.

Enjoy!
