Book Mail Day

Hi Everyone,

This evening, I received 4 beautiful books from Forever Publishing.

Now, I am currently finishing Chasing Your Tail by Kate McMurray. Due out December 6, 2022. I am also in the middle of Atomic Family by Ciera Horton McElroy. Once I am finished, which of these should I dive into next:

1. An Heiress’s Guide to Deception and Desire by Manda Collins (I have read the first book in this trilogy and loved the wit and humor.) Historical romance.

2. Second Chance Cowboy by A. J. Pine. This author is probably my all-time favorite, when it comes to Cowboy romances.

3. A Duke Worth Fighting For by Christina Britton. A new-to-me historical romance author.

4. The Summer Sisters by Sara Richardson. I recently started her Christmas story. This one is more of a small-town romance book.

This is why I love reading multiple books at one time. I can read several genres, and if my mood changes, due to say nausea or a Hurricane, I can switch to something lighter.

So should I step back in time, hang out in a small town, or find a cowboy?

Don’t forget to sign up for the enewsletter. 1st issue goes out tomorrow.

What are you reading this evening? Thanks again, to Forever Publishers for the great pick-me-up tonight.

A Quote to Begin the Night…

“A truly great book should be read in youth, again in maturity and once more in old age, as a fine building should be seen by morning light, at noon and by moonlight.”

~Robertson Davies

I am a big fan of re-reading books. Do you reread?

Curling up with a blanket and a book

The weather has shifted today. Add to that, my new meds are making me nauseous. Therefore, I am grabbing a blanket (I know, crazy!) and curling up with a Christmas-themed book, because when the forecast says “blustery” Christmas and snow seem like the right choice.

I am reading: Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy by Sara Richardson. Not only is it cowboys, and Christmas, but it is also former Navy Seals… yes, I do think this will be the right book to lift my spirits.

What are you reading tonight?

I Am Ruby Bridges

By: Ruby Bridges

Illustrated By: Nikkolas Smith

ISBN (Because this is a specific edition) 978-1-338-75388-2

At age 6, Ruby Bridges became the first African American child to attend the all-white William Frantz Elementary school. Ruby tells her story, as she experienced it, when she was just six years old.

Adapted for the youngest readers, this edition has beautiful illustrations that demonstrate Ruby’s words. There is a glossary to help children learn key terms. For older readers, the author and illustrator have included their own personal notes of what inspired this version. This is an excellent book to help encourage family discussions about America’s history of education.

This is a children’s book. It is told from the eyes of a child. It is illustrated showing the world through a child’s eye. It is beautiful! I loved Ruby’s sass, especially when it came to her very old name. I loved her innocence and her spunk. She is, indeed, Ruby Bridges, the First!

Notes:

I honestly reviewed an ARC from the publisher Orchard Books, via Scholastic.

A Quote to Begin the Month

“October had tremendous possibility. The summer’s oppressive heat was a distant memory, and the golden leaves promised a world full of beautiful adventures. They made me believe in miracles.”

~Sarah Guillory, book Reclaimed

You all, I am exhausted, but ever so grateful. October 1st brought a miracle of cooler weather and sunshine to let the cleanup begin. Seeing my neighbors, this evening, bringing out furniture and clothes has been devastating. The water has receded and the healing is beginning. My family and my neighbors in the building were blessed. Our cleanup paled in comparison. I am hoping a drive will be started soon, to help replace everything that was lost. In the meantime, donate to the Red Cross if you can and find organizations that are helping those affected by natural disasters. At the least, thoughts and prayers, have always been a positive thing.

On a brighter note, October has 31 days in it, and my goal is 31 reviews this month. However, it is not happening today. Tonight is about rest. Hopefully tomorrow, I will pick up a book again.

Tell me what you all have been reading this weekend?

Hurricane Ian Arrived

Oh how I used to love the name Ian… Right now, I am beyond grateful. We were blessed. My neighbors on the otherside of the pond were not. The ocean, met the marsh, came in waves and overpowered 1/2 of the neighborhood. In less than 10 mins, waves and water covered nearly everything.

It blessedly stopped a few feet from our back porch. The neighbors in my building are safe and sound, and we are all just trying to regroup, breathe, and count our blessings. Tomorrow the cleanup begins. Tonight, we ride out the rest of the winds, pray the water continues to recede, and look up at the bright cheery sky.

At least the Great Egrets seemed to enjoy their brunch buffets.

My prayers are with all those affected and still being affected by Ian.

Please stay safe and dry.

Hurricane Ian

This morning, I went to the doc under a Tropical Storm Watch, and came out with a Hurricane Warning. Tonight, Ian is back to Hurricane strength and looking to make SC his next landfall.

So with everything charged, now is the time to stack the books within easy reach. (Luckily that is an everyday occurrence for me.)

When you are facing severe weather do your reading habits change? Do you switch genres? Do you pick books based on the weather? I normally just try to see how many I can read.

To everyone in Florida, Cuba, and all the other areas affected by Ian, my thoughts are with you.

To everyone in SC, stay safe and dry!

The Christie Affair

By: Nina de Gramont

Nan O’Dea had one mission in life, separate Agatha Christie from her husband, Archie. She did it well and knew it was only a matter of time before she became the next Mrs. Christie. However, before that marriage could happen, Nan needed to settle a few things from her past. So, while Archie was preoccupied with his missing wife, Nan decided to take a holiday to regroup and say goodbye to a painful past. What Nan did not expect was for her past and present to meet and for it to be one of the most glorious weeks of her life. But how will it all end? Will Archie go back to his wife? Would Nan’s past constantly haunt her and cause her further grief?

Told from the point-of-view of Archie Christie’s mistress, Nan, speaking to the reader, a fabulous story (or three) are unraveled slowly. Readers will be quite caught off guard by some of the events, thinking that they are reading a love story that happens to involve a famous author, when actually they are learning something deeper about Ireland’s history. Readers will also enjoy seeing some other authors that were involved in the real-life search for Mrs. Christie. To this day, no one knows what happened during the time she was missing, but this perspective provides an almost hopefully theory.

Sidney: The Lonely Cloud

By: Tim Hopgood

To Be Published: Oct. 18, 2022

Sidney wants to look down and see happy faces and cheery places. Unfortunately, wherever Sidney appears, people seem to scream that they want the cloud to go away. So, Sidney decides to leave, and as she crosses over bodies of water, she continues to grow larger. When Sidney stumbles upon a very warm, dry land, will she finally find a place where she is appreciated?

This adorable picture book slowly introduces readers to the water cycle, as well as being as appreciated for who you are. Everyone has a place where they are wanted and where they belong. Everything serves a purpose. The pictures are beautiful and show a lot of detail. This is an uplifting book for families to read together.
