Tonight, I am starting The Last Dreamwalker by Rita Woods. I am so excited to read this book, it is supposed to be rich with Gullah-Geechee culture and language, set here in South Carolina.
I got my copy from My Sister’s Books. This is a friendly reminder to support your Indie Bookstores this holiday season.
I have read a few of these types of books, throughout my life, authors from Nicole Yoon to Colleen Oakley.
Given my latest health news, and lack thereof, I am in the mood to discover more of these works. So, tell me, what you recommend?
This week’s enewsletter has a few announcements. Make sure you are signed up here.
This is a cute movie, with old friends and new ones. A bit long, and more filler than the first movie. This one took a spin into actual history, so it is a great way to begin discussing the matchbox girls. I do hope they continue this series.
Have you read or seen any of the Enola Holmes stories?
After two weeks of several doc appts, tests, and more waiting… today, was a much-needed reset day. Watching reruns of Elementary, and playing a full game of Wizard of Oz Monopoly with Mom.
What do you do to reset your mind and body?
“Books and movies are like apples and oranges. They both are fruit, but taste completely different.”
~Stephen King
Today, at the hospital, I started reading another True Adventure story. The Flag Never Touched the Ground: America’s Brave Black Regiment in Battle by Kekla Magoon.
Do you read historical fiction set during the Civil War?
So the last week and a half have been a whirlwind with docs, tests, and so much information. Tomorrow, I am back at the hospital for another test , so needless to say, my brain hasn’t had the best focus.
I have been watching the latest season of The Crown, and I have a few episodes left. I am not sure why everyone is up in arms over it, all of a sudden. I view it as the same as any historical fiction novel. Based on real people and real events, but fictionalized in order for easier reading. Nowhere does it claim to be biographical, and honestly this season is very, very boring. A real lack of 90s events, but oh well.
For a more biographical look at royal life, I am reading The Crown in Vogue by Robin Muir and Josephine Ross. This has been eye-opening, with beautiful photos that I haven’t seen, and it spans several generations. I look forward to reading more of this book.
