Happy Release Week!

I am so excited to share this week’s author spotlight with all of you. Patti Callahan Henry is one of my favorite authors! Many, many years ago, I discovered her book, And Then I Found You, and I have been hooked ever since. I have read: The Bookshop at Water’s End, The Favorite Daughter, The Art of Keeping Secrets, and more. Her recent novel, written as Patti Callahan, took a dive into one of my favorite genres, historical fiction. Becoming Mrs. Lewis takes readers on an incredible journey through Joy Davidman and C. S. Lewis’ remarkable love story.

Patti Callahan Henry is an award-winning author, most recently she won the Harper Lee Award for Alabama’s Distinguished Writer. (As someone who has read To Kill a Mockingbird, at least 15 times, I find this award to be absolutely amazing!!!) Yesterday, Becoming Mrs. Lewis was re-released as an expanded paperback edition. This expanded paperback edition goes deeper into the insights she discovered, while doing research. (Previously heard on her podcasts.) It also includes a map of Oxford and a helpful timeline. This is a must-have for historical fiction readers.

Patti’s book tour was cancelled due to the pandemic, however she is not letting that stop her from celebrating this special edition. Follow her online, as she has an exciting virtual tour happening this week. She will be talking with various authors each day! Below you will see a short interview with Patti and links on where to find her incredible books.

Time to Read a Good Book…

Or two or 100!

Hi Everyone,

Let’s be real, readers do not need an excuse to stay at home and disappear into a good book. However, it seems like now more than ever, is the perfect time to stay inside and make a dent in our ever-growing To Read stacks.

On my Instagram page, in the stories, I have been sharing ways you can support your local indies, while staying indoors.

Starting next week, I will be highlighting several authors on here, as a way to provide virtual tours, since numerous physical book tours have been cancelled.

If you make too big a dent in your book stacks, don’t forget to order online from your local bookstores. Indies will need extra support during these difficult times.

I am still working my jobs, while I can. Tell me how things your way. What books are you most excited to read in the coming weeks?

Also, if you could ask an author any question, what would it be?

Bookmail is so exciting!

Hi Everyone,

Today is a very rainy day. I mean really rainy, all day long. However, Ozzy and I went for a short walk this morning and we picked up the mail. Do you see what I see???

Bookmail is incredibly exciting!

I can’t believe it! I won!!! I have been following Reese’s Book Club for years and I won this month’s book. Yay!!! Have you read it, yet?

They even sent a bookmark!!! These are my people!!!

So let’s talk celebrity book clubs. There seems to be more and more each month, which is great. You might know, especially if you are in the online Sasee book club, that I have followed Reese’s Book Club for years. I also was excited to read all of the summer books recommended in the Jimmy Fallon summer reads. (Not just the winners.) And recently I have been following Jenna Bush Hager’s Book Club.

Do you follow any celebrity book clubs? Which ones are your favorites?

The Night Swim

By: Megan Goldin

5 Stars

To be published on August 4, 2020

Rachel Krall has a very successful true crime podcast where she has helped solve cold cases. However, for this new season she wants to try something different. Rachel travels to the small town of Neapolis to cover the town’s controversial rape trial. While there, she is contacted several times, and sometimes in disturbing ways, by a fan who needs her help. Hannah never believed that her sister drowned twenty-five years ago, but she needs Rachel to find the what happened. Will the truth come out or will the town continue to protect its own?

The author seamlessly combines methodic courtroom drama with gripping psychological suspense. This book will keep readers up long after they have finished the last page. While it might be easy to correctly guess the guilty party from the past, readers will want to see how events unfold and if justice is served in both cases. Megan Goldin brilliantly inserts readers into the mindset of the characters. Hannah will live in their hearts for years to come. This is a must-read for all mystery and thriller fans.

Notes:

I signed up to honestly review an advanced e-copy of this book. Thanks to Netgalley/MacMillan/St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity.

And the answer is…

Hi Everyone,

So the other day, I posted about the struggles of deciding whether to finish a book or not to finish a book. After a long, internal debate, and reading comments that completely aligned with my train of thought, I decided..

To Finish or Not To Finish

That is the age old question.

Readers everywhere struggle with this question at one point or another. I even approached this dilemma a few years ago. However, I still hold out and finish every book I start. I always think the ending might be worth it and I love saying I have read every book by an author.

But let’s be real. Reading time is limited. I listen to more audiobooks now, and I am grateful. I still prefer holding a physical book in my hands. There are thousands upon thousands upon thousands of books in the world. Each month, new books are published by soon-to-be-discovered-turned-favorite authors, while each year already-favorite authors produce new titles. With that being said, how does one continue to force a book that just isn’t for them?

I started The Spinner Prince two months ago. Middle grade books are easily devoured. However, this one has so much going on that I have a hard time getting into it. I am nearing the halfway point, but what should have taken me a week max (normally two days,) is still dragging. It could be due to all the chaos surrounding the move, or it could just be me. I chose this as the first book for our new home. But it might become the first book that I do not finish. Why?

I picked an incredible stack of four books in January, as a reward for finishing the other one. I desperately want to read them. (I may have even snuck in a few chapters, but stoically set it aside.) Yet, still they all sit next to my bed, and here it is the start of February and my February stack is calling my name.

So what should I do? Do I continue to try and finish the book that has me struggling? Do I set it aside and come back at a later date? Or do I just say ‘no’? It may not be for me, but there are so many others out there to enjoy. What do you think? Have you been in a similar situation recently?
