The King of Pawleys

By: David Bernstein

Peter and his brother, Sammy, have been coming to Pawleys Island for the last 5 years. One fabulous week of fun, sand, and sun. Peter looks forward to the beach and the family traditions every year… it is the best part of summer. This year, the family has new neighbors, and Peter and Sammy meet a girl named Ali, so things are looking up for Peter. However, when Ali’s older brother is attacked in the middle of the night, nobody seems to know who did it. Will Peter, Ali, and Sammy find the real bullies of Pawleys, or will this adventure be too much to handle?

This book is chocked full of everything Pawleys, from the scenery and activities to the legends and lore. The gratitude and love of the island shine through the author’s words. This chapter book is ideal for middle grade students. Anyone who loves to read mysteries, chase the bad guys, and stand up for what’s right, will love this story.
