A Book from a Friend…

Hi Everyone,

I always enjoy a great book recommendation… especially when a friend says it is a must read. One of my neighbors recommended a poignant story that her son had mentioned to her. It is called Find the Good: Unexpected Life Lessons from a Small-Town Obituary Writer. It is by Heather Lende.

Right from the bright, yellow lemon on the cover, I could tell this was going to be an emotionally uplifting story. And then personal life happened, losses, and numerous trips to doctors. I knew I was not emotionally ready to read a book that had the potential to make me cry. So I kept waiting. I would pick it up, skim the first few pages and set it down. Then, one afternoon, I gained the courage to pick up this book and see what life-changing lessons it contained.

Yes, this story has sweet tales and sorrowful losses. However, this short book is more of a wake up call. When life is overwhelmingly negative, you must work hard to find the positive and focus on it. Once you strive to find the positive in each negative thing, it will come easier over time. The small-town Alaskan setting truly comes to life for readers, as well as the quirky community members. This is an easily read book that each reader can relate to. This was the first book by Heather Lende that I had read, but I will definitely be looking into her other two books.

Enjoy!
