One Thousand White Women

Set in 1875, May Dodd is among the group of women selected to marry the Cheyenne Indians as part of a program created by Grant to help assimilate Indians into a new way of life. May Dodd strikes the interest of the Chief and becomes one of his wives. May and her friends are soon thrusted into the Cheyenne tribes and find themselves forced to decide between two vastly different cultures.

In this historical fiction novel, Jim Fergus paints an elaborate scene inside the Cheyenne Indian and rival tribes. The use of Shakespearian quotes is used to help foreshadow the upcoming events. Reading Groups will have numerous topics to discuss with this book, as several aspects are relatable in today’s society.
