Right and Left Grand

Darla King #1. By Rosalee Richland. Format: eBook. Read: August 2013.

Darla King is an ex-criminal investigator, who is still coping with the tragic loss of her husband five years ago. In order for her and her daughter to remain connecting to his family she moves to Texas where she is reunited with her former passion, square dancing. With her daughter in college, Darla has become a square dance caller, which is a rarity for females, but she is loving each and challenge the clubs and dances bring her way. That is until one club member discovers an unconscious man dressed in a square dancer’s outfit on his property and the local police are trying to pass it off as a simple car-jacking. It is up to Darla and her three best friends to figure out the real reason behind this mysterious man’s attack.

Right and Left Grand is a cozy mystery with square dancing galore. Fans of square dancing will enjoy the insider’s view to what it takes to be a caller, while square dancing novices will learn several steps. The story starts out a bit slow, with the real mystery not appearing until the halfway mark, but the straightforward writing style makes it an easy read. The entire novel is told through Darla’s perspective, which allows readers to connect to her fears, apprehensions, and enjoyments, through her inner thoughts. Readers will look forward to seeing what Darla and her friends get into next.

When I started reading this book, I knew absolutely nothing about square dancing, so it was intriguing to read about it. What about you? Are you a fan of square dancing?

Enjoy!
