The Lair

A Sinner’s Grove novel.  By: A. B. Michaels.

When news arrives that Daniela Dunn’s father has passed, she is forced to return to Italy, to a home she fears. Her childhood home and the family members that live there, hold a critical secret to her past. One that Daniela is unable to remember, but still feels the effects every day. Unbeknownst to her, her friend Detective Gabe de la Torre, has been asked to accompany her and keep her safe. As the secrets from her past, come rushing forward, will Gabe be able to protect her?

This story starts with an opening bang. Throughout the novel, incidents and items from the previous book are mentioned, making this a sequel in a series that should be read in order. The romantic suspense buildup is great, while some of the mystery is predictable. This is a very twisted story about family secrets and what people will do to succeed in their minds. There is a secondary relationship that moved very quickly, while the primary couple slowly intensified their unity. Readers will feel like they have entered the shady underbelly of Italy, as they sit down and disappear into the story.

Alternate Connection

(Countermeasure Series #3) By: Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey.

Trevor and Cassandra Bauer have experienced some ups and downs while searching for clues towards Trevor’s missing parents. Instead of experiencing a relaxing holiday season with friends, they have been called to assist the United States Government. Working to help rescue kidnapped Embassy workers, means reuniting with someone from their past. Enter, CIA Agent Nathan Nelson, a man who is not well-liked in the Bauer household. Nate has been battling his own demons this holiday season, and now he is forced to work with the Special Ops Team and the Bauers. Nathan will do anything he can to rescue the woman from his past and make amends. Rachael Moore was married to Nathan’s best friend. Now she is on a personal mission to learn more about his death. In the middle of an assignment in the Middle East, she and her co-workers are kidnapped. Will they get to her in time? And if they do, will she even want their help?
This is the third installment in the Countermeasure Series. The story’s emotional ebbs and flows can rival any ocean in the world. The authors clearly did amazing research into not only the history of the Middle East, but also the sentiments behind their traditions. Readers will be forced to travel to this area world and live with bated breath as they watch the events unfold. High action and high suspense, will keep readers guessing until the very end. Readers should start with the first novel in the series and work their way to this latest chapter. Alternate Connection is a heart-stopping tale that will leave readers anxiously waiting for the next book to be released.

Hello fellow Bookworms,

I think part of the definition of a Book Lover, is one who loses sleep while caught up in the midst of a great book. Tell me in the comments, what the last book was that kept you up late at night!

Happy Wednesday!

Enjoy!
