Happy Halloween!

Hi Everyone,

What book will you reading on this spooky holiday? Every few years, I get the urge to read a scary novel. This year, I have been craving Misery by Stephen King. However, I will have to read it next year. So today, I am filling my reading hours with two holiday books: Pilgrims by Mary Pope Osborne and A Christmas Wish by Joseph Pittman. I figure we can all “be” whomever we want to be today, so why not read whatever we want to read, as well!

Happy Halloween to all!

Forgotten Book Challenge

Hi Everyone,

The Forgotten Book Challenge is a fun, Facebook group, where the focus is to find the buried treasures hidden deep in the electronic shelves of our e-readers.

After a long, exhausting week, I couldn’t get into the books I was currently reading. Therefore I went to my nook app and swiped once, and when the scrolling stopped, it landed on Mistletoe on Main Street by Olivia Miles. I remember it was a free download over a year ago, and I chose it completely because of the cover. (I just love Christmas stories.) I was expecting a sweet romance, set in a small town decorated with snow.

September 11th

Hi Everyone,

Today is September 11th… a date that we all hold close in our hearts and minds. A date that we will never forget.

16 years ago, the world was changed, as terrorists attacked the United States of America. What I will always remember from that tragic day, is how we all banded together and helped one another.

9 years ago, I was hospitalized with ITP. Throughout all the years of testing, and still unanswered questions, I have learned that life happens. No matter what you plan, life has a way of changing things. You learn to continue to move forward each day.

Today, Hurricane Irma’s winds are wreaking havoc outside. Places that are still rebuilding from Hurricane Matthew are being destroyed again. Memories of Hurricane Hugo from 28 years ago, are flashing in people’s minds. Again, what I try to focus on is the fact that everyone is coming together to help one another. Whether it is from Hurricane Harvey or Irma, we are all trying to keep each other safe. (I also learned that the high school where I graduated from was vandalized. Things were stolen and windows were destroyed. However, let’s remain focused on the positive side of things.)

So book wise, what does this day mean? I have read a few adult fiction novels that reflect on the meaning of September 11th, but this year, this year I chose to read a children’s book.

What I am Reading…

Hi Everyone,

Right now, I am reading two books that have me completely entranced. First is If the Creek Don’t Rise by Leah Weiss. This is a modern day, southern story, about a girl down on her luck and trying to find a safe place for herself and her unborn child. The second is, Underground Airlines by Ben H. Winters. This is a modern day story, with an alternative history twist. The Civil War hasn’t occurred and slavery is still in existence.

RGRC Book #1

Hi Everyone,

After several delays, due to website issues and health issues, I finally started the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge on Book Lover’s Day. I have been wanting to do this challenge for numerous years, but I kept procrastinating over the last few months due to the first book. 1984 by George Orwell. In school, I had to read George Orwell 4 years in a row, 3 Animal Farm projects and 2 1984 projects. It had seemed I never would escape the clutches of George Orwell’s writings, so I vowed, never again.

And what just happens to be the first book of the challenge? Yep, I had to accept it, if I ever wanted to get to the fun reads, I was going to have to read Orwell, again. In this day and age, where hate seems to be overflowing and encompassing the world, it was hard to “escape” into this book. It is a frighteningly realistic hyperbole on what society could become.

Anywho, it is a classic and one that I am grateful to check off the list! Up next, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. This was one of my favorites growing up, so it will be nice to revisit it.

Enjoy!

Today is the perfect day to celebrate all things book related! Today is also the perfect day to start a reading challenge. I started this day by finishing a book (Everything, Everything) in the wee morning hours. And tonight, I am starting the first book (1984) on the Rory Gilmore Challenge. Don’t you just love a day that begins and ends with a book?

How did you celebrate National Book Lover’s Day?
