A Quote to Begin the New Year…

“Hope
Smiles from the threshold of the year to come,
Whispering ‘it will be happier’…”
~Alfred Tennyson

Happy New Year everyone! Four years ago today, I packed up my boys and we hit the road to begin our new life in South Carolina. It has been an interesting four years, but I am grateful for all of them. I have high hopes for a very happy 2015 for us all!

Thank you again for all of your continued support.

Cheers to 2015!

Buried Treasures and a New Year!!!

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year!!! I am being totally honest here, I actually did a happy dance on the first day of the new year. I mean, really, I don’t think my family could have handled much more from 2013. I am grateful to welcome in the new year. I don’t want to jinx my family, so all I am going to say is that so far, we are happy with the new year and we are looking forward to some of the changes that will occur.

As for me personally, I am looking forward to reading all the amazing books that 2014 has to offer. I set a new Goodreads challenge for 100 books this year, though I plan to at least double that, so long as this year is more pleasant and cooperative. (It HAS to be more peaceful!) (Last year, I read 110 books, which is pretty impressive considering the last 5 months of the year were a complete disaster for my family.) Currently, I am reading Other Systems from The List and will post that review next week. (I will be away from my computer this weekend.) I hope you all are enjoying your new year! Do you have any specific reading plans/goals?

C & C wanted posterWhile thinking about how I plan to make the most of this year, and setting out a reasonable reading goal, I noticed other people setting there own challenges and goals.  The writing duo of Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey posted an interesting article and poster. They are looking for ebook hoarders, who have downloaded all sorts of free ebooks during the last year, but the books got “buried” underneath all the other books… and well, does this sound familiar? So they have started a new campaign looking for readers who have downloaded Countermeasure or Uncharted, but haven’t read them yet, because of all the other ebooks that they have downloaded. This triggered me to thinking about how many books I downloaded last year, because they were free, but I haven’t seen the titles in quite a while. Plus, I know several other people who seem to be overwhelmed by their ereaders, because of all the free books, that they have no idea where to even begin! So, here’s what I am thinking… How about a challenge for all us? We each try to find 10 books this year, that we have downloaded for free and read them this year. What do you all think?

I just want to thank each and every one of you for your continued support. May all of your dreams come true in this new year and may the year be filled with amazing books!

Enjoy!

New Year, New Resolutions, New Schedules…

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying the new year. Did you all make any resolutions? I didn’t really make a resolution, but more so decided to schedule reading time each day. When I started this blog, I was taking about 2-3 days to read a book and then I would immediately typed the review. However, the last two months I have severely gotten off track. If you know about Alzheimer’s Disease/dementia, then you know that night time is a difficult time for a person with dementia. Make it winter, where the sun goes down early and it is a bit cooler, and let’s just say the days have been a bit tougher for my family. Then add into that the streak of bad health that I had, and very little reading was accomplished in the month of December.

But it is a new month in a new year and therefore the slate has been wiped clean and a fresh start can occur. For me, this means making a schedule for reading and writing reviews. My new goal will be to take 3-4 days to read a book and then on the 5th day write the review. Remember this is my goal, but life can happen and delay things some days. In between reviews, I will try to have one or two blog posts about topics related to reading/writing/reviews. Plus, for those of you who have enjoyed seeing the quotes, I will continue to post them too.  Also I have ordered a reading light, since my old one burnt out, so this will help when it comes to paperback and hardback books. Yes, this is my game plan for 2013 and I am thrilled to see what new books this year has to offer. What about you? Do you have any new goals for 2013?

On an exciting bit of semi-related news, I went to the post office today and a new book had arrived. This new book is from Ireland! Be sure to check out the newly updated List page. Thank you all so much for your support. This little book review blog that I started, has surpassed my dreams. Thank you for taking a chance on me and I hope you continue to join me on this journey. Thank you all. Have a wonderful night and a healthy, prosperous new year!

Enjoy!

Reading and Updates

Hi Everyone,

Today is a major reading day for me. I hope you all have a good book to read this weekend too. Hard to believe that this is the last weekend of the year, but I am looking forward to 2013 and all that it has to offer.

I just wanted to post a couple of quick updates here, before I go back to reading. First there appeared to be a connection issue with Facebook for the past two weeks, so if you are a fan of Ariesgrl Book Reviews Facebook page, you didn’t see anything that I had posted. I apologize for that and I think I have fixed the connection, so everything should be visible there again.

Unfortunately the second thing I wanted to discuss is something that I cannot control, nor fix. As you know I post my reviews to Barnes and Noble’s website, however it has become a game of hit or miss with whether or not my reviews are viewable. When I log into my account I can view that all of my reviews have been saved but only about half of them saved the star rating. It appears that those with the saved stars are visible when pulling up customer reviews on a book. BUT those without the saved stars are not visible and the website will not allow me to go back and fix it or re-rate it. I am not sure why this occurs, because I review every book on their site in the same process. So for those of you, who know I have reviewed the books, but can’t see it, this would be the reason.

Lastly, I am pleased to announce that Ariesgrl Book Reviews will be hosting another author sometime in January. There may even be a giveaway, too. I will keep you all updated as more information comes around, but I am really excited about this news and wanted to give you all a head’s up!

I wish you all a happy and peaceful Saturday! Happy Reading!

Enjoy!
