Despite her distrust of men, Brodey charms the alluring interior designer into helping him examine the case facts.

Personal Shelves Review

The beginning of October, we had to bury my grandfather. The days leading up to the trip, my mind was scattered and I couldn’t focus on anything. I tried reading different books from The List, but my focus wasn’t there. I tried to watch a movie, but my dvd player was broken. I was stuck… I couldn’t get past my own mind, so I went scrolling through my library on my Nook. I stumbled across this book that I had downloaded for free. It had the promise of a sweet, short romance, so I gave it a shot. Here are my thoughts:

Snow Fence Road

By: Phyllis Edgerly Ring. Format: Paperback. Read: August 2014.

The Spinnaker Inn is a quaint and cozy place to vacation near the coast of Maine. It has been around for decades and its familial history is just what Tess Johansen needs to heal her wounded heart. After suffering the devastating loss of her fiancé, she returns to the one place that still holds fond memories for her. As for Evan Marston, he avoids the inn and all of its memories, as he tries to cope with the daily life since his horrific accident. Slowly throughout the changing seasons, these two become friends who rely on each other and the inn to mend their broken souls.

Snow Fence Road is a short, sweet and power-packing book. Readers will be riding an emotional rollercoaster, while turning each page as they try to figure out each twist and turn. One thing that the author focuses on is that tragedy, while devastating, could lead towards unanticipated opportunities. If this book were a little longer, the characters could have been fleshed out more. However the plot line is uplifting and the ending will leave readers’ astonished.

My Sister’s Books Review #47

Bride for a Night

By: Patti Berg

Duncan Kincaid was thrilled to marry Cairo McKnight five years ago, but his adventurous spirit forced him to leave her the very next morning and he ended up in jail. Several months later, when he received the annulment papers he was heartbroken and devoted himself to his secretive mission. Cairo McKnight loved Duncan ever since she first met him, when she was a teenager. Being married to him, even for just one night was a life-changing experience…literally. She is a mom to the precocious little five year old boy, but she must decide whether Duncan has matured enough to handle the responsibilities of being a father.

This book is a cute story. There is a secondary romance between Cairo’s aunt and Duncan’s father that adds a different perspective on second-chance love. Overall the story is endearing, but a tad predictable. The author seems to rush through certain emotions and discussions, but as a whole the story is a fun, modern romance. Readers will enjoy taking the journey with Duncan and Cairo as they explore their past and uncover the secrets hidden within Montana’s land.

Will to Love

Lifestyle by Design #1. By: Miranda P. Charles. Format: eBook. Read: May 2013.

Clarise Carson was desperate not to be set-up by her meddling family, so she takes drastic measures to avoid the awkward introduction at her sister’s party. Too bad she didn’t know who the guy was ahead of time, because the only single male at the party was making her wounded heart flutter back to life. Will Matthews hated it when his friends tried to set him up. Yet he agrees to go to the party because he intends to be introduced to a woman who could help his successful business grow larger. Will intends to keep his life strictly business, in order to care for his parents, yet Clarise opens his heart to things he never thought possible. Will these two be able to put their pain aside and help each other heal or will they both avoid love out of fear?

This is a sweet, contemporary romance book to start a promising series. Miranda P. Charles does a great job with writing relatable characters whose past hurts will affect reader’s emotions. She also establishes the secondary characters, that will take on leading roles in future books, without distracting readers from Clarise and Will. Though the excessive use of endearing terms, such as Darling and Baby, will be a bit much for some readers to handle, the overall meanings of overcoming fear and going after what your heart desires are sure to soften even the hardest of hearts. This is an easy-to-read book, with a few grammatical errors. Adult readers who enjoy reading sentimental love stories, will thoroughly enjoy this book.

This book is a great way to start a series. I am looking forward to reading how the other characters find love and hopefully getting to see how Clarise and Will continue their relationship. This book will definitely have you grinning while you read.
