(The Love Brothers Series)

By: Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey

Lieutenant Jacob Madden has thrived in the military, earning his place in the 8th Special Warfare Logistics Group. He is currently on a week long leave, in hopes of seeing his mother. Normally, this would make anyone happy, however, Jacob left his family and the Amish religion behind, seven years ago. After reading a concerning letter from his sister, he is compelled to go home, no matter how much dread lies in his heart. What he doesn’t expect to find is his first love, Abigail, working in a bar outside of the settlement. Abigail was forced into the English world and while terrified of the unknown, she was lucky to find the Love family, who gave her a job, as well as their friendship. Knowing in her heart that she would never see her friends and family again, her whole world is flipped upside down, when Jacob walks into the bar. Will one week be long enough to heal both of their hearts? Will they be able to make peace with their past, in order to save their future?

Bytes of Life Anthology

Countermeasure: Bytes of Life Volume 1. By: Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey. Format: eBook. Read: April 2013.

This anthology contains three short stories that take place in between the first full length novel, Countermeasure and the second, To Russia with Love. These short stories pickup right after Trevor and Cassandra’s wedding and progress through their first six months as newlyweds. This anthology provides a nice inside view of Trevor and Cassandra’s new life in Ireland and how they are happily married, yet they are both still haunted by the past and worried for their future. Fans of Countermeasure will want to read this anthology. These stories are not full of suspense, but they are full of romantic trysts. Recommended for mature audiences that have read Countermeasure first.

This series is amazing! I cannot wait to begin reading the next novel. This series as a whole, so far, has it all: suspense, action, intrigue and romance. Definitely a must-read series.

Have you read the Countermeasure series yet? If so, who is your favorite character?

Continuum: Fables of the Fallen

By: Kathleen Gulo, R. C. Erickson, Gregory J. Downs, Alexander Pyles, Nathan Slemp, Jacob Baugher Format: eBook. Read: March 2013.

This is a science fiction anthology written by six college writers and this is the first in the series. Lost legends, space life and fallen heroes are explored further in each of the six short stories.

This book is a fantastic science fiction read. Each story is told from a different point of view, set in different aspects of time and space, yet each story is connected in the inner demons and trials of the main characters. There are a few grammar errors in a couple of the stories, but the rest of the short stories demonstrate excellent writing. Several of the stories end with cliff-hangers that will leave readers desperate to continue the series. Each of these writers have a gift for writing science fiction tales and each of them will have new fans from the readers of this book. A must read for all science fiction fans.

I enjoyed reading this anthology. I liked getting a taste of each of the talented writers’ styles, however I am disappointed that these stories ended so quickly. I hope that these tales are picked up in the next anthology or at least they are prequels to novels. Do you like to read anthologies by multiple authors or just a single author?
