In Loving Memory

Hi Everyone,

On April 17th, my Grandfather was admitted to the local hospital… After a few weeks worth of extremely difficult times, my Grandfather finally found peace on May 5th. Though my family and I are grateful that he is no longer suffering or being tortured by the horrific disease known as Alzheimer’s, we still miss him dearly. We are back to taking each day as it comes, as we all, including the dogs, try to adjust to life here at home without him.

As you all know, I have been my grandfather’s caregiver for the past several years. I started this website as a way to stay connected to the outside world, while living in the Alzheimer’s realm. I cannot express in words how quiet my home is now, nor how much my heart aches each minute of every day. I am grateful for the love and support from my family and friends, as I know the healing process will take time.

I also appreciate all of your support and understanding over the years, especially while I have been absent over this past month. I send you all my sincerest apologies for my absence. Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be working hard to get caught up on emails and blog posts. I will also be updating the pages on here, especially the About Me page, as I start this new chapter in life.  I have always trusted in the healing powers of books and I look forward to continuing to share my experiences and reviews with all of you.

Hugs to you all. Thank you again for your continued support.

Sincerely,
~Ariesgrl

Happy Day-After Thanksgiving

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving day. My family and I decided to do a small meal here at home, which turned out for the best… My grandfather fell yesterday, but we are very grateful that he is okay.

As I was cooking yesterday, I was thinking about this past year. It is strange how I can pinpoint the exact week that my family’s life turned upside down. Since the very last few days of June, my family has experienced one heck of a downward plummet. We have lost loved ones and experienced the awful progression of my grandfather’s disease. No matter what we seemed to do to stay positive, each day there was another negative being thrown in our path. I will very happy to welcome next month and the new year with open arms.

Even though, there has been a lot of sadness, pain and negativity… there is still a ton of positives to be grateful for… One thing I am grateful for is this site and all of you. Your constant support has been a reassuring beacon of hope, always showing me there is another world outside of the Alzheimer’s disease… and for that: I am ever grateful. Thank you all for your continued support, even throughout all of my unexpected delays that have occurred these past several months. Thank you all for being one of my bright light/life houses. :) I hope that each of you were able to spend the holiday with your loved ones and that you all found something positive to focus on and be grateful for.

In the spirit of getting back on track…

Throughout this afternoon, I will be posting the winner of the Stacy Juba ebook giveaway and then I will post the next two reviews from The List and then one from the My Sister’s Books list.

Have a fabulous Friday and if you are out in the stores shopping today, be safe!

Enjoy!

Good Morning

Good Morning Everyone,

I am still working on catching up on my reviews. I hope to be able to post 2-3 more today. In the meantime, I was wondering if you all could leave suggestions in the comments below about books that either you, friends or family have read relating to Alzheimer’s Disease. As you know, my grandfather suffers from this illness and I am his 24/7 caregiver, and I have a few friends that are also dealing with similar situations. I am looking for both non-fiction and fiction, so any suggestion is welcome. I appreciate all of your support and thank you in advance for your help.

I hope you all have a terrific Thursday!

Thanks again,
~Ariesgrl

Good Morning World

Hello Everyone,

How are you? I wanted to give you an update on things around here. The past two weeks I have pretty much avoided the computer, any spare moment that I had, I used to read. You see, my family life has been chaotic, it seems since this summer there has been a downward spiral around here and it some days it appears that gravity is winning. Through the world of Alzheimer’s I have “lived” through several decades, saw a TV remote become a bathtub remote (and yes the batteries exploded and the new remote is in the mail) and fought in the war with Harry Truman, along with starting a game now known as football with old friends. (As this is just a taste of what life has been like, you can see why my head has been spinning in circles making it difficult to focus on the computer screen.) Not to mention the fact that I had not one, but two sick doggies that are finally starting to feel better. (Thank goodness!) Over the past two weeks, I could actually feel my spirit and soul tiring. I was feeling depleted. So instead of waking up and jumping on the computer or stating up late at night typing up posts, I read.

Reading has always been my form of therapy/healing medicine. Reading allows you to escape your world and live in another. It gives your mind a much needed vacation, so that your body is prepared to handle what else is in store come the next day. Does that make sense? Well, to me it does. This weekend, a part of me felt refreshed and a little bit closer to that term “normal.” (even though in reality, what is normal?) I have read several books from The List, along with My Sister’s Books List, with a couple just-for-fun books thrown in and of course an Alzheimer’s research book too. What does this mean for all of you??? A boatload of reviews are headed your way this week!!!

I started catching up on all my emails on Saturday and Sunday. I also did several page updates, too. You will now see new books added to The List and My Sister’s Books List. If you check out the Author Appearance page, you will see that the order has been rearranged, so that the more current dates are at the top. This page is still being worked on, as I will be adding links to each of the posts, over the next few weeks, but in the meantime the order is complete and current. While you are checking out the pages, you should notice a new page, one that is near and dear to my heart. The new page is Support A Great Cause! This page is where I will list info about my favorite book-themed organizations. I have included links on how you can help, if you wish. (Be on the lookout in 10 minutes for the next post where I go into a bit more detail for you all.)

How have you all been? What have you been reading this month? I hope each of you and your families are well and that you are all enjoying this bizarre weather!

Have a marvelous Monday everyone!

Enjoy!

Well… HELLO September!!!

Hi Everyone,

How are you? Sorry I have been quiet this past week and a half. The last week of August flew by and left my head spinning. However they were productive on the home front and one major boulder has been lifted off our shoulders. Thank goodness. However, the month of August was wretched for my family and it seems the large amount of stress that existed during that month, has now hit me like a ton of bricks. Either that or an end-of summer flu bug. Yuk! I logged onto the computer today and realized that my absence has caused my emails to back up tremendously. If you are waiting to hear back from me, please know that I am working on getting caught up on all emails today. My deepest apologies for the delay. I also have a review that I need to type up and will hopefully have that posted for you tonight.

I can’t tell you how relieved I was to say goodbye to August and welcome September with open arms. Also, which almost seems like perfect timing for my family, this month is Alzheimer’s Awareness month. Please be aware of the early warning signs and symptoms and please help spread the word, in hopes of a cure. If it runs in your family, take time to make a game plan with your family, just in case, before it is too late. On a lighter note… I am still working with the winners of the Big Giveaway, however, I will be posting the answers to all of the games tomorrow. Thank you all for your patience, understand and your support. You all are amazing. Thank you!

Here’s to a happy and peaceful autumn for us all.

What about you? Are you excited to welcome a change in seasons or do wish to live the last few weeks of summer to the fullest?

Enjoy!

Rainbows through the Storms

Hi Everyone,

As most of you know, I am a full-time caregiver for my grandfather, who suffers from moderate Alzheimer’s Disease. Sadly this past weekend marked another advancement in his illness and sadly what few memories were there are now gone. Needless to say there were many tears shed for many different reasons. However, after my eyes could no longer cry, my mind seem to accept this latest chapter. My heart is still aching, my eyes are tried, but dry and my mind is trying to think things through logically.

On the other hand, even though I have been away taking care of my family, it seems that all of you have been extra amazing. Wednesday, I logged onto Facebook for the first time in a few days to see that the page had gained 47 new followers. Wow! What a wonderful surprise. By Wednesday night, the Facebook page reached over 400 likes. Thank you all so very much. Your support means the world to me. That delightful bit of news brought a big smile to my face and for that, I am forever-grateful to you all. Thank you for giving me a bright rainbow to focus on!

I hope each of you is having a wonderful week! I will be back later tonight with my next review. Thank you all again for your continued support.

Enjoy!

A Quote to Begin the Day…

Whenever my environment had failed to support or nourish me, I had clutched at books…

Good Morning Everyone,

This quote is beyond meaningful for me today. It describes my past perfectly, while unfortunately describing my present too. Yesterday I had an unexpected family matter to deal with in between my posts, so I apologize for the delay. I have learned to expect the unexpected while caring for someone who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease, but there are still some occasions that cause me to pause everything else, in order to regroup. Throughout the day today, I will have several posts to share with all of you, including a few more reviews. On an exciting side note, I just learned the date that this blog will participate in a Book Release/Blog Tour/Giveaway! April 5th, will be an exciting day here!!! Check back later for more details.

I am wishing you all a wonderful day filled with peace, love, happiness and great books!

Enjoy!
