And the Winner is…

Hi Everyone,

I was supposed to announce the winner of the Stacy Juba eBook giveaway on Wednesday, but sadly I was under the weather with a terrible migraine that day. Then, well yesterday proved to be an eventful Thanksgiving with no time to get online, which leads me to today. I want to thank everyone who participated in the giveaway. I would also like to give a special thanks to Stacy Juba for participating in the interview and offering a giveaway.

The answers to the Bonus Questions are:
1. Top Teenage Detective?
a. Nancy Drew
b. The Hardy Boys
c. Clue kids
d. Other

D. Trixie Belden

2. If you could have any one/two of the sixth senses, which would it be?
In Dark Before Dawn, I talked about the sense of psychic hearing, which I described as asking a question of the universe and hearing a response in your thoughts. I see it as an inner road map of knowing what to do so you can make the best decisions. I think that to some degree, we all have this ability, but first we need to clear our mind so that we can hear it, and second we have to trust it. I’d like to develop this sense some more. Not to the extent of Dawn in Dark Before Dawn though – I don’t want to hear anyone’s thoughts! Well, maybe that might be helpful to hear what people were thinking of me….no, I probably wouldn’t like that very much!

Since there were two people who entered in the contest, I went to Random.org and entered the parameters 1 and 2. Congratulations goes to comment #1. Congratulations, Claire!!! You have until December 7th at 11:59pm to contact me to claim your prize. You can select either Sink or Swim or Dark Before Dawn. Congrats!!!

Enjoy!

Templand Blurb:

The heroine, Melanie Evers, is a plucky young working-class
woman from Akron, Ohio struggling to support herself in Chicago in the
post-9-11 economy. TEMPLAND follows Melanie’s journey through the temporary
employment world from a college student on “just a summer job” to a
28-year-old woman with a lot of intelligence (and a heap of student loan debt
to match) through multiple layoffs and a series of ever-more-wacky temp
assignments, as she struggles not only to survive, but also to find romance and
always remain true to the honest, working-class values instilled in her by her
beloved grandfather.

In her long, solitary journey through Templand, Melanie encounters adventure
and romance on her search for that always-elusive Permanent Job—which she
finally gets, along with her man. TEMPLAND is a highly entertaining, wickedly
funny social satire, contemporary romance, and mystery novel all rolled into
one.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About TEMPLAND

1. The author Jill Elaine Hughes wrote the book ten years ago during work breaks at — you guessed it — a temp job.

2. The book landed the author her first literary agent, circa 2004. Said agent shopped it all over the New York publishing houses, who liked it but turned it down because they said it lacked “shelf category” (i.e., there was no “New Adult” genre back then.)

3. The book was written before the Great Recession, but given the struggles today’s youth has with unemployment, underemployment, and a lack of good permanent jobs, TEMPLAND seems even more relevant today than when it was first written.

4. The author modeled the heroine Melanie’s grandfather on her own grandpa—or “Papaw,” as she likes to call him.

5. TEMPLAND contains a murder mystery subplot.

6. The heroine Melanie Evers’ sleazy ex-boyfriend Phil is fluent in Farsi. This is integral to the plot.

7. The book depicts many real locations and establishments in the city of Chicago, including the now-defunct Zephyr Ice Cream Restaurant.

8. The author had given up on getting TEMPLAND published until reader demand for New Adult titles about starting your career led her to give it new life through self-publishing — and reader interest has been amazing!

9. If you’ve never heard of Green River Soda before (a cult favorite in Illinois), you learn about it in this book.

10. Several of the wacky bosses and co-workers Melanie encounters on her temp assignments were inspired by real people the author met during her own temp-work stints.

Welcome… Sage Ardman, Author!

Good Morning, Sage. Thank you for being here today. Can you please tell everyone here a little bit about yourself?

I’m 60 years old, married, and have two sons in their twenties, both of whom have left the nest. I live in California, but spend every summer in Ontario, canoeing and enjoying the beautiful waters.
I have always been a huge reader of fiction, but I never knew about romance novels until last year when I wrote “Executive Sweet”. At first, I started reading romance novels because it helped me write my book. But I soon fell in love with romances (well, most of them, anyway) and so far I’ve gobbled up 70 of them. I prefer contemporary adult, but I’ve read a few historical, paranormal, young adult, urban fantasy, etc.
So what was I doing with myself for the 59 years before romance grabbed me by the throat? I’ve been a computer programmer! These days, computers seem less and less interesting, and I spend all my time reading and writing romance.

Executive Sweet is a romance novel. What inspired you to take the leap into writing in the romance genre?

“Executive Sweet” was the result of a huge “what if” question. What if (I asked myself) a CEO intentionally tried to distract his adversaries by bringing a beautiful woman with him whose job was to tilt the negotiation in their favor? Besides being sexy, the woman would have to be business savvy, and also quite adept at playing such a “con game.” At first, I wrote some vignettes about these sorts of business deals. But then, I realized that the love interest would be compelling, and so the vignettes got woven into a romance novel. Although this seems to have a pretty standard “CEO and beautiful woman” formula, it is nothing like the other romances in that category (I know, I’ve searched in vain). In my case, the two of them start off as friendly colleagues, and the hero is much more modest (the usual attitude such men have is that they’re more powerful than everything else that walks the earth).

Your main character, Kay Samson, has found herself in an interesting business situation. Would you have the same confidence as her, if faced in a similar scenario?

One of the things that I did to prepare myself to write “Executive Sweet” was to learn about con games. I’ve read books, watched TV shows, and seen a number of movies. It takes some serious nerve to be able to pull that stuff off, and as much as I wish I could do it, I doubt I’d be able to.

What is your perfect reading/writing day?

I prefer writing to reading, so my perfect day is when I get to work on new material. The characters seem to live in my head, and I can sit for hours, typing dialog that I hear them saying. Later on, I go back over the dialog and add inner thoughts, emotions, and physical actions.

When I’m not writing, I read and read. I can sit for hours reading. And ever since EBook readers came on the market, I’m in love with them. In fact, when I’m forced to read a paper book, I hate it, and can’t wait to finish it.

Besides Executive Sweet, are there other books that you have written or books that you plan on writing soon?

It turns out that “Executive Sweet” is the first of a 3-book series that I’m now calling the “Westerley” series. Book two is nearly done and I expect it in a few months. Book three is already taking shape in my head. All three books share the same characters, but stand on their own as romances. The nice part is that they fill-in for each other, providing further character development, and sometimes even replaying a scene from a different point of view.

One thing that I’m doing (that I hope doesn’t alienate my readers) is that I’m switching genres with each book in the series. “Executive Sweet” is mostly a suspense story. Book two (tentatively titled “A Good Little Girl Like You”, a line from The Wizard of Oz) is a comedy. Book three (no working title yet) will be a paranormal romance.

Now if you want to go backwards in time, before “Executive Sweet,” you will find that I’ve written two other books. But they’re computer books, and believe me, you don’t want to read them. I know I don’t.

Bonus Questions for Giveaway:
1. What is the first romance book you ever read?
a. Sonia Singh – “Goddess for Hire”
b. Susan Elizabeth Phillips – “What I Did For Love.”
c. Joelle Charbonneau – “Skating Around the Law”

2. Out of the books list above, is there one that you wish you could “live in”?
a. Sonia Singh – “Goddess for Hire”
b. Susan Elizabeth Phillips – “What I Did For Love.”
c. Joelle Charbonneau – “Skating Around the Law”
d. None of the above, because your life has the best romance of all.

I would like to thank Sage Ardman for stopping by here today. She is offering one lucky commenter a paperback copy of her book, Executive Sweet. For your chance to win, just leave a comment below between now and Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 11:00pm EDT. Each comment will count as one entry, however, if you choose to answer either (or both) of the bonus questions and each correct answer will count as another entry. Winner will be selected using Random.org, and will be announced Wednesday, October 2, 2013. You can find my review of Executive Sweet here. Good Luck to you all!

Enjoy!

Bad Boy, Ryder Davenport comes into Dina Fowlers life in the middle of her own personal hell. Still coming to terms with the death of her parents, she pushes everyone away. When she trusts the wrong man, putting her in a bad relationship she felt she couldn’t escape, Ryder comes along. Enjoying his play boy ways, fast cars, motorcycles and a new woman in his bed nightly, Ryder had no thoughts of settling down. That is, until he sees the damage a man can do when he meets a very broken Dina. He changes in hopes of one day being enough for her.

But, can she ever feel safe with a man again? Ryder has restored hundreds of classic cars can he restore Dina’s heart?

Excerpt: Chapter 2

Ryder

What is this girls name again? Ah hell, she wants to feel special and I can’t even manage to remember her name. Lauren, Lori, Laura, something like that, I think. Brayden will find this entertaining once we arrive at the restaurant. I text him to see if we can stop by for introductions, he said sure thin. I am off to let some chick meet my roommate and best friend. The things I do to get a new piece of ass.

Girls are raised with a misconception of prince charming coming to take away all of their problems. Thing is, prince charming doesn’t exist in real life, that is why they are in fairy tales. Like Cinderella’s step sisters trying to make the shoe fit, women can’t form men into a certain fit, the way they want. When it’s right, the slipper will slide right on. Always remember it’s made of glass so it must be handled with care. That is the reality of love right there, when its right you still have to be gentle and take care of it in all of its fragile states.

Add to that the balance of Daddy/daughter relationships and men don’t stand a chance. You will either find the Daddy’s girl who’s first love is her Dad. These girls are confident. They are in no rush to accept anything less than real emotion, real love because their Dad gave them that security. The flip side to that are the ones with Daddy issues. The woman whose dead beat Dad walked away without teaching them real love; only abandonment. These girls are usually easy and are just looking for a connection in any way they can feel it. Even if it’s just a fleeting moment, a rush, they want to feel love. After a few heartbreaks, they become real man haters.

Either way, from childhood, most little girl’s dream of the day they find their forever in a man. This makes it easy for them to fall for the many lines a hormone driven dude, such as myself, will give them. They strive so much for that connection, that security, they will believe just about anything you say. What they know to be a lie, they convince themselves that they can change in you. Overcome the bad boy, change the player into a one woman man, surely they can love you enough to change you. Love conquers all, after all, that’s what they are told from the time they are hosting pretend tea parties.

I am young still, not ready to be tied down or deal with the delicate nature of love and a serious relationship. I do believe in love, commitment, and forever. I just know that now is not the time in my life for such seriousness. Until that day comes I want to taste the variety of women that exist in my world.

I have spent a week texting this chick, making her feel special. It’s not enough though and she says she wants to meet my friends. Really feel like she knows me. I love a challenge so fine you can meet my friends.

We walk into the restaurant where Brayden is having dinner with Maggie, his girlfriend, and Dina her roommate. As soon as we enter I feel a charge in the room. I see her sitting with them and I am immediately consumed. She is a magnet drawing me over to her. Never have I felt an instant pull to someone, like this.

Dina is a downhome, gorgeous girl. Her makeup is subtle, with natural looking hair, perhaps just some high lights she just carries a casual comfortable look. To be honest, I would find her sexy in a paper bag. She has on a black shirt that dips down just enough to hint at her cleavage. She has curves, gorgeous curves in all the right places. She is by no means a big girl, she is skinny, but with boobs and ass that are definitely enough for a man to enjoy. Her flat stomach is calling out for me to run my hand up it to cup her very full breasts or down to her hips to slide around and scoop her luscious ass. When she looks at me, I feel like she is looking directly into my soul. The world seems to stop around us as I am pulled into Dina and everything that is her.

After we get beyond the hello’s some prick is manhandling my Dina out of her seat. Whoa! My Dina, where did that come from? I don’t know why, but my adrenaline and instinct are now in overdrive. I am burning with fire coursing through my veins.

Before any of us could react, they were gone. Maggie is crying as Brayden is trying to quickly settle their check. The blonde with me is grabbing at my arm. I shake her off, leaving her there as I climb in Braydens car behind Maggie.

When we arrive at the apartment, Brayden escorts Maggie inside. I stay out front searching for the prick so I can shove him around a bit. Adrenaline, anger, disgust, rage, and an emotion I can’t manage to describe, all well up inside me.

Brayden comes out almost immediately. The look on his face is horror and pure hatred. My boy is a firecracker with a lit fuse about to blow. The look on his face, his demeanor, it all sends me into overdrive.

Through gritted teeth, Brayden says, “His name is Michael and he’s roughed her up in the face. Maggie swears this is the first time. I don’t give a shit. He needs to be taught a lesson.”

Synopsis:

High school sweethearts manage to make it through college into the working world still together and going strong. From the start of their relationship Jake has made very clear his apprehension to marriage. Kenna understood going into this nine years ago that with Jake there would never be a ring or white dress.

Now seeing their friends so eager to make such a serious commitment in their own relationships a crack begins to form in Jake and Kenna’s once solid foundation.

Will Kenna ever open up and share her dreams with Jake? Can Jake overcome his childhood issues? Is Kenna willing to accept things just as they are forever? Will her desire for a more serious commitment make her change her feelings for her one love? Is Jake enough alone or does Kenna demand more than he can give? Can they move forward full throttle into their future together?

Excerpt: Chapter 4

Kenna

I wake up to an empty space beside me. Jake never came back to bed last night. We always sleep together, even with his nightmares, or when we are fighting. After all the time spent apart with the deployments, we treasure the little things more, like being wrapped up in one another. What is going on with him that he didn’t want to sleep beside me?

I shower and dress for my day, trying to tame my irritation. I descend our stairs, reaching the bottom; I stop and stare. Jake is asleep sitting up on the couch, empty beer bottle still in his hand. This gorgeous man is snoozing away in his boxer briefs. Watching him breathe in such a relaxed state, I take in the man before me.

Jake is built lean like a swimmer. When standing, he is five feet ten inches tall. He has a trim build with broad shoulders. He is not overly muscular but he is toned everywhere, especially in the definition of his chest and abs. He has dusty brown hair with deep green eyes. For me, he is a perfect fit, and the sexiest man I’ve seen.

As I take in the steady up down rhythm of his chest, I am drawn to the angel tattoo. She is moving with him with his every breath, as he inhales and exhales. This movement pushes the words around her, causing them to practically scream out to me. I get teary eyed remembering that specific ink experience.

It was right before his first deployment to Iraq. He said I have always been his angel, saving him from himself since the day we met. The angel on his chest was designed to resemble me in her facial features. The script seems to dance around her.

‘Watch over me, carry me, bring me always safely through to my loves waiting arms’

Mentally, I have got to shape up. Jake does not need me as a distraction with all that is on his plate at the garage. Dwelling on the marriage that will never occur isn’t going to help either of us. I am Jake’s love, as he is mine. I wait when necessary for the next opportunity to hold him close, and always carry him in my heart.

I see Dina with Ryder, knowing their day is coming soon. The desire for that level of commitment is evident in the way they look at each other. Maggie has made it more than clear to Brayden (and everyone else) that she expects a proposal sooner rather than later. Both of these couples are so in love and on the path to wedded bliss.

Jake and I are still head over heels in love with each other. Despite all the years together, I continue to get butterflies when I see him. The honeymoon phase has never ended for us.

Seeing our friends so happy and in love is wonderful. I truly am overjoyed for them. This whole wedding thing, where Jake and I are concerned, shouldn’t bother me so much. Yet, it does. What am I to do about it now?

Harrison and Tiffany have a long history of hooking up. Harrison decides he wants more. Tiffany, a spoiled Southern Belle is embarrassed by a working class Harrison. After over two years apart Tiffany is missing his touch. She heads to Charlotte to claim her man.

Harrison is finally settled in Charlotte. He has a job he loves, his sister close by, great friends, and an awesome agreement going with Sophia.

Can Sophia ever want more from Harrison than just sex? Has Harrison fallen in love or just lust with Sophia?

After all this time and hurt feelings, is he really meant to be with Tiffany? Can Harrison manage to let his guard down and find his way back to Tiffany? Will Tiffany be satisfied with a regular working class mechanic? Or is their relationship in the past and beyond repair?

Excerpt: Chapter 2

Harrison

Quickly realizing, this is not the time or the place for this encounter I respond.

“Tiffany now is not a good time.”

At the mere mention of her name, Sophia pulls away from me. Tiffany looks distraught, eyes puffy, her blonde hair pulled into a messy bun on top of her head. She’s in yoga pants and a tank top. Clearly she didn’t know she was coming to a wedding. My sister hasn’t gotten into the limo yet. Seconds tick by feeling like hours. Why is Tiffany here now?

Tiffany looks over to Maggie, the occasion dawning on her face. “I’m so very sorry to intrude. I just need a moment to speak with Harrison. I didn’t realize what was going on when I was told I could find him here. Congratulations Maggie, you look stunning. Again, I’m sorry. I’ll be leaving now.”

Turning to face me, tears now evident in her eyes, she says, “Harrison, please call me tomorrow. It’s important. I’m leaving to go return to South Carolina late afternoon.”

Anger builds in me at the loss of Sophia at my side. How dare Tiffany come back now! Without thinking, I snap.

“Now is not the time, Tiffany. To be quite honest, never would be too soon. I have nothing to say to you.”

Without a word or reaction, Tiffany turns and leaves. The tension in the air quickly leaves as Brayden kisses my sister passionately. Reminding us all of the occasion for which we are here.

The newlyweds get in their limo driving away to the clanging of cans hanging off the car and the cheers of family and friends. Knowing some damage has already been done, I go in search of Sophia. Things aren’t defined between us; this isn’t jealousy, I don’t think. She knows how much Tiffany messed me up before.

About the Author

Chelsea Camaron was born and raised in Coastal North Carolina. She currently resides in Southern Louisiana with her husband and two children but her heart is always Carolina day dreaming. Chelsea always wanted to be a writer, but like most of us, let fear of the unknown grab a hold of her dream; she realized that if she was going to tell her daughter to go for her dreams, that it was time to follow her own advice. Chelsea grew up turning wrenches alongside her father, and from that grew her love for old muscle cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles, which just so happened to inspired her ‘Daddy’s Girls’ series. Her love for reading has sparked a new love for writing and she currently has a few more projects in the works. When she is not spending her days writing you can find her playing with her kids, attending car shows, going on motorcycle rides on the back of her husband’s Harley, snuggling down with her new favorite book or watching any movie that Vin Diesel might happen to be in. She hates being serious and is still a big kid at heart. She is a small town country girl enjoying life and, Chelsea hopes that her readers remember not to take life too seriously and to embrace your inner five year old, because five year olds know how to enjoy the simple things in life and how to always have fun.

They say there are five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

Not everyone will grieve in this order, nor will everyone go through every stage. It’s during the stage of denial when Alex Hart meets Andrew Foster. He takes her one-step closer to acceptance: the stage when new, meaningful relationships are formed. The stage when the realization occurs that this is now the new state of normal.

Just when Alex thinks she is on her way to healing, she enters the bargaining phase. That’s the phase where you wonder what you could have done differently. You wonder “what if?” Specifically, what if the ones you loved hadn’t left you?

Leaving…this is what makes heading off to war so difficult and frightening for Alex. She knows all too well what it’s like to be the one on the losing end of life, which is why she’s made it her personal mission in life to save as many lives as possible. The extreme high she gets from treating trauma victims turns into Alex’s own form of therapy, or so she thinks.

When faced with her world being turned upside down, Alex may just find that her true therapy is in the one who has always saved her.

Q&A Time:
What sparked your interest in becoming a romance writer?

I’ve always been one to tell long, drawn out stories. After I found the erotic romance genre, I realized I had my own story brewing in my mind. So I sat down and started writing. I had no idea that this part of me even existed, but I’m so glad I found it.

What was the first romance novel you read that made an impression on you?

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

Tell us 5 surprising things about yourself.

1. I sample all of my food when I eat a meal. Whatever I like the most, I eat all of it first. Then I eat everything else in the order that I liked it. Sometimes I’ll save the best for last.

2. I must be hungry. Speaking of food, I hate for my food touch. Major thing for me.

3. Even though I can be very outgoing and vivacious, I am also really shy in large crowds of people that I don’t know…or don’t know well.

4. I worry too much about what people think of me.

5. I have some sensory issues. And even though I love to go barefoot all the time, I hate it when certain things get on my feet. It makes me get the heeby jeebies.

What is your ideal writing environment?

There’s this room that is adjacent to my kitchen and living room. It’s supposed to be like a sun room because there are windows to outside as a wall and then there are a couple of windows that divide it from the living room. I have a desk in that room along with a shelves for all of my book stuff. It’s pretty much my office. It’s nice because I can still be a part of the family when I’m working. I usually have music blasting in my head phones to drown out noise.

One of your favorite quotes.

She believed she could, so she did. It’s my motto.

Who is your perfect hero? And why?

I have a lot of people that I admire and look up to on this earth, but none that are perfect because by nature, we are imperfect beings. So if I have to name a perfect one, it’s God. He never lets you down, He never breaks promises, and he carries you when you’re too weak or tired to walk another step on your own.

Which authors have caught your interest lately? Why?

Eeek. I’m sorry. I haven’t really had a chance to read in a long time. I loved Vixen in Vegas by Emma Nichols. I can’t wait for Katie Mac’s Searching for Tomorrow.

What type of book have you always wanted to write?

I was just thinking yesterday that I want to try to do some kind of mystery or suspense romance after I finish the This Series or maybe in between those last three books.
