In Like a Lion, Out like a…

Hi Everyone,

No, I am not planning on discussing the weather. Sadly, this saying has applied to my family’s life for this past month…and so far there is no lamb in sight. So what has been going on in my world that has caused my silence here? Well, where do I begin?

Back in February, I posted that I was recovering from a broken wrist. (Tonight is my first night trying to type without my brace and it has proven to be an interesting journey.) What I didn’t explain during that short post, was that my grandfather had a nervous breakdown and spent 2.5 weeks in a hospital trying to “come back.” Unfortunately, once these nervous breakdowns happen, they will continue and they will become more frequent as the Alzheimer’s progresses. And over the course of the past two weeks, he has been headed towards another breakdown. My Mom and I are doing everything in our power to slow this one down. We know there is no stopping it, but if we could slow it down that would be a relief. He has a doctor appointment Tuesday to see what else we can do.

Needless to say, these past few weeks have been beyond stressful. And that stress has led to Ozzy having two seizures in the past three weeks. So it seems that despite the fact that I wake up each day, hoping, wishing, dreaming and praying for peace… peace is not meant to be for my home. By the time night falls, I am unbelievably exhausted and drained, that even the thought of looking at the computer leaves me cross-eyed. (Oh and don’t let me forget to mention that the season of fireworks officially started last night, with a surprise performance at 11pm.)

I offer you all my sincerest apologies and I hope that you will all understand my absence over these past few weeks. Please take note, over the course of the next 48hrs, I will be posting my 10 reviews that I have for you and answering all of my emails. Then next week, the quotes, author interviews and reviews will all be back as normal.

Due to the overwhelming stress in my life, there will be some changes to the site. The most significant change is that I will no longer be accepting review requests, until I have caught up on all current books from The List. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause authors, but I promise this will only be temporary. Once I have substantially caught up and/or my life has found a routine, I will re-open the Review Requests. Another change was made earlier today, when I updated both Lists and bolded the ‘Started Reading’ next to each of the books that I am currently reading, so it should be easier to see what I am reading. Over the weekend, I will be updating the sidebars to include book giveaways and/or author contests for readers to participate in.

In the meantime, let’s focus on the positive and discuss what everyone is reading. Right now, I am reading The Quest for Juice and Defending Jacob. What are you reading on this fine Friday night and how has your March been?

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Enjoy!

Happy Valentine’s Day and an Update

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all are enjoying your Valentine’s Day! I am recovering from a broken wrist right now, hence the reason that I have been a bit scarce here lately. (Today’s my first day trying to type and let me tell you, it is a SLOW process.) However, I am getting caught up on all my emails today and this weekend I will be back with not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 reviews. So thank you for your patience and understanding.

I wish you all a delightful Valentine’s Day!

Enjoy!

This crazy weather…

Hi Everyone,

So last week, due to weather, germs and who knows what else, my Mom caught the nasty flu bug. She is still recovering, but it is difficult with this insane weather. In one week alone, I have run the AC and the heat, and now I sit here typing by the open window, while listening to the fact that it is supposed to rain and turn cooler tomorrow. Then it will be in the 20s again over the next few nights. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the cold, but what I don’t understand is the constant ups and downs that happen over the course of a few hours. As for Mom, she is resting and is slowly starting to feel more “whole” again. I hope that all of you are staying healthy and have consistent weather.

I will be back tomorrow, but I wanted to just take a quick second to update you all, while everyone here is resting.

Have a great night.

Enjoy!

Buried Treasures and a New Year!!!

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year!!! I am being totally honest here, I actually did a happy dance on the first day of the new year. I mean, really, I don’t think my family could have handled much more from 2013. I am grateful to welcome in the new year. I don’t want to jinx my family, so all I am going to say is that so far, we are happy with the new year and we are looking forward to some of the changes that will occur.

As for me personally, I am looking forward to reading all the amazing books that 2014 has to offer. I set a new Goodreads challenge for 100 books this year, though I plan to at least double that, so long as this year is more pleasant and cooperative. (It HAS to be more peaceful!) (Last year, I read 110 books, which is pretty impressive considering the last 5 months of the year were a complete disaster for my family.) Currently, I am reading Other Systems from The List and will post that review next week. (I will be away from my computer this weekend.) I hope you all are enjoying your new year! Do you have any specific reading plans/goals?

C & C wanted posterWhile thinking about how I plan to make the most of this year, and setting out a reasonable reading goal, I noticed other people setting there own challenges and goals.  The writing duo of Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey posted an interesting article and poster. They are looking for ebook hoarders, who have downloaded all sorts of free ebooks during the last year, but the books got “buried” underneath all the other books… and well, does this sound familiar? So they have started a new campaign looking for readers who have downloaded Countermeasure or Uncharted, but haven’t read them yet, because of all the other ebooks that they have downloaded. This triggered me to thinking about how many books I downloaded last year, because they were free, but I haven’t seen the titles in quite a while. Plus, I know several other people who seem to be overwhelmed by their ereaders, because of all the free books, that they have no idea where to even begin! So, here’s what I am thinking… How about a challenge for all us? We each try to find 10 books this year, that we have downloaded for free and read them this year. What do you all think?

I just want to thank each and every one of you for your continued support. May all of your dreams come true in this new year and may the year be filled with amazing books!

Enjoy!

Meet the Boys

Hi Everyone, I talk about my boys, Ozzy and Jagger, quite often on here. I thought it would be nice for all of you to “meet” them. So from time to time, as I read physical copies of ebooks, I will try to snap a picture of them reading with me. This photo was taken the other day and the review will be posted tonight. Enjoy!~Ariesgrl

Merry Christmas Eve!

Hi Everyone,

How are you? Have you all remained healthy and gotten all of your shopping done? Well if you have, then you are better than me. Let’s see here, Friday was my grandfather’s 81st birthday, so while Mom took him out to lunch, I baked him a few surprise chocolate chip and walnut cookies. :) By Saturday afternoon, I had to give in and concede, I was sick and despite putting up a fight, I had to give in and take some medicine. Have I mentioned that the last four days were in the 80s? Thankfully last night the rain came through and cooled things off. The weatherman declared it was 20 degrees cooler today, than at the same time as yesterday. (Talk about some big changes… Tonight it is supposed to be in the 20s!!! Perfect timing, don’t you think?)

Last night, I managed to sneak out of the house for an hour to complete my holiday shopping and today, I had the great pleasure of wrapping everything! Wrapping presents is my second favorite activity of this season… My favorite is watching everyone’s faces as they open up their gifts. What about you? Do you and your family have special traditions during this time of year?

I just wanted to take a quick second to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I will be back online on Thursday with several reviews for all of you to enjoy! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Enjoy!

What are you reading?

Hi Everyone,

After spending the other day, getting the new site up and running, I decided to spend the next two days reading. This morning, boys and I curled up and gathered the books, and read a total of 10 pages, before we were interrupted. (figures.) I am currently reading The Book Thief for My Sister’s Books and Other Systems from The List. What are you all reading? Do you have any special holiday themed books planned for next week?

I just wanted to take a quick minute and thank you all again for your continued support. I really appreciate it. Have a wonderful night!

Enjoy!

Changes…

Hi Everyone,

Last week provided me with two simple facts:

1. We lost another family member and there is no way for us to travel to be there to support our loved ones. Grieving from miles away is painful and lonely. I know I am not alone when I state that many of us are ready for the new year… a positive and productive new year.

2. My grandfather’s illness is advancing and it is becoming difficult to be the sole caregiver. I need help. My Mom is also finding it harder and harder to leave for work everyday, not knowing what is going to occur here at home.

Thanks to last week, I have spent the entire day today making changes to this site. As I have stated in my About Me page and in my very first post, I dream of becoming a full-time reviewer. Unfortunately, with the basic WordPress blog that I had and the small Wordads, I wasn’t making enough money to support my family… My family is top priority, but this blog, these books, the authors and all of you have become a part of my family. I will continue working on this site and writing my reviews, but I needed to find a way to earn more money. (Goal for 2014: Mom can go part-time and be here more often, while my reviews and blogging pay the bills. Sounds nice, right?!)

So what does this mean? Well, I have switched my blog from the basic WordPress.com to a self-hosted site. (Something that I had been saving for, for a long time.) I have spent all day, transferring, uploading, checking and verifying information and posts. Everything is here and running as smoothly as possible. All my reviews transferred, all of the pages and posts, too.  Some things that are different: the Twitter feed is new and the Goodreads feed is now a link. (It won’t update automatically, if I use the widget.) The follow button is different now, too. Instead of followers, it allows for subscribers. Subscribers will receive one email a week that will contain all the posts from that week.

Sadly, I lost the WordPress followers from my blog. They didn’t transfer over with every thing else. I am deeply sadden by this and have tried any and every thing I could to fix it, but I can’t. So if you used to follow my posts or know someone who used to follow my blog, could you please Subscribe to it now (and help me spread the word.) Thank you! I despise the fact that I lost some followers and have temporarily complicated things for you. So sorry. (If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.)

Why did I switch to a self-hosted blog? With a self-hosted site, I have more freedom on what I can post, plus I have the added benefit of being able to post ads. They will be minor and will not interfere with any posts. (You can note, at the bottom of the page/post there is a Google Ad already in place.) These ads will allow me to earn money to support my family and follow my dreams.
I can’t thank you all enough for your support. I truly appreciate it. You all have become a part of my extended online family and I look forward to discussing books with all of you, for years to come.

Until tomorrow… Thanks again for everything.

Enjoy!

Happy Day-After Thanksgiving

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving day. My family and I decided to do a small meal here at home, which turned out for the best… My grandfather fell yesterday, but we are very grateful that he is okay.

As I was cooking yesterday, I was thinking about this past year. It is strange how I can pinpoint the exact week that my family’s life turned upside down. Since the very last few days of June, my family has experienced one heck of a downward plummet. We have lost loved ones and experienced the awful progression of my grandfather’s disease. No matter what we seemed to do to stay positive, each day there was another negative being thrown in our path. I will very happy to welcome next month and the new year with open arms.

Even though, there has been a lot of sadness, pain and negativity… there is still a ton of positives to be grateful for… One thing I am grateful for is this site and all of you. Your constant support has been a reassuring beacon of hope, always showing me there is another world outside of the Alzheimer’s disease… and for that: I am ever grateful. Thank you all for your continued support, even throughout all of my unexpected delays that have occurred these past several months. Thank you all for being one of my bright light/life houses. :) I hope that each of you were able to spend the holiday with your loved ones and that you all found something positive to focus on and be grateful for.

In the spirit of getting back on track…

Throughout this afternoon, I will be posting the winner of the Stacy Juba ebook giveaway and then I will post the next two reviews from The List and then one from the My Sister’s Books list.

Have a fabulous Friday and if you are out in the stores shopping today, be safe!

Enjoy!

Children’s and YA Books

Hi Everyone,

As you know, I like to show my support of Indie Authors by featuring them on here through guest posts and/or interviews. All genres are supported here on this website at anytime. With the holiday season officially underway, I would like to set aside some of these days for Children’s and YA authors. (After all, the gift of reading is one that lasts a lifetime.) I will still feature other authors and other genres during this time, but I hope to be able to schedule weekly Children’s/YA Authors, if there is enough interest.

What do you all think?

Have a great day!

Enjoy!
