About Me

And so the next chapter begins:

Hi Everyone,

The thought of re-writing this entire page was heart-breaking, so I came to the conclusion that I should just update it. So below the line my original “About Me” will remain for those who haven’t read it.

As for me, I am still figuring out what the next chapter in my life will be. It took several weeks since my grandfather’s passing, before I had the urge to pick up a book, much less work on this blog. However, I am pleased to announce that I am reading again and I am looking forward to diving back into my reviews. This blog, reading, my reviews were a bright spot before and I look forward to being able to devote more time to the joys of literature.

As I continue to figure out what is involved in this next chapter, I will post dated updates here.

As for now…

Happy Reading Everyone,

(Updated 6/17/2014)

My name is Nicole McManus, aka Ariesgrl. Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved to read. If you read my very first post on the home page, you will know that I was never without a book of some genre in my hand. I have a life that has seen many twists and turns, and during the bad times I used to escape into any story I could get my hands on and not stop until I turned the last page. As I grew older, I would have weekly “therapy sessions” at the local bookstore, that felt more like home to me, than my actual home some days. During the good times, I would pick up my favorites and re-read them for the fifth, sixth, or seventh time. I was the girl that would sneak a flashlight in bed, just so I could read until the book was finished.
Currently I am residing in a new state and taking care of my aging grandfather full-time. I have two Italian Greyhounds (my boys) that I love so much. My grandfather and one of my boys have several health problems, so I am a 24/7 caregiver. My Mom (the most amazing woman I will ever have the pleasure of knowing) also lives with us. We are a family of five, living under one roof (for the first time in years) adjusting to our new life. My Mom works hard, and is currently the only one earning a paycheck, and I have been working at home (not earning money, yet) by becoming a couponing princess, and gardener. Each day brings a new adventure, and with that new knowledge (whether it is how to score the best deal or how to regrow a new veggie in my window.)
As we all know, times are tough, I have started this blog for several reasons, the first of which is that books can bring children and adults happiness. A good book does wonders for the human heart. Second, I want to become a book reviewer. A book reviewer gets paid to read, which means I can help my family financially, while still being at home to take care of everyone. However, most importantly, a book reviewer can guide people to books they may not have chosen for themselves, but are amazed at what they have discovered. So please join me for an amazing tour, filled with crazy adventures in this wonderful world of literature.

  3. Hey there! I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I nominated you for the Liebster Blog Award!

  4. You and I sound a lot a like throughout my tough teenaged years I could always escape any pain, or drama that came my way by working on my book. For while I could escape and go to my happy place.
Good luck with your grandfather, and I hope that your dreams of becoming a book reviewer come true. 🙂

  5. It’s wonderful that your grandfather has you for a caregiver! My grandmother has caregivers visit every Tue. and Fri., and their boss is always looking to hire more caregivers. He especially wants those who have experience caring for seniors, even unpaid care for a family member.
I do all of Grandma’s grocery shopping, since I work in a grocery store, but many of the caregivers in this firm deliver groceries to many of their other clients who don’t drive.

I hope you find work as a paid book reviewer (that would be awesome!), but keep in mind that care-giving is a growing field with all the baby-boomers aging, and you have the experience that people will want.

    • Hi Vampire Syndrome,
Thank you very much for helping me keep my options open. Right now I am my grandfather’s 24/7 caregiver, so leaving the house to work is not an option right now. However I will keep your suggestion in mind if my schedule ever becomes more flexible. I hope your grandmother is doing well. Have a good day!
      Thanks for stopping by,

  6. Hi Nicole! I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award for new bloggers http://wp.me/p1BT8Z-aY

  7. Hi Nicole, it sounds like you are working very hard to help your family, you should be very proud. 🙂 I also dream of becoming a proper book reviewer at some point, it would be the best thing in the world to actually make some profit off blogging. It is a dream I keep quiet but silently wish for when no one is around, lol. I hope we both get to do it one day!

    • Hi Becky,

Thanks for stopping by the blog and thank you for the kind compliments. I understand that hushed-whispered dream all too well. You have a pretty cool site, so keep at it. I look forward to seeing more.

      Have a good day!
      Thank again.

  8. You’re such an inspiration, Nicole. 🙂

  9. There seems to be a common thread of reading books to find an escape in life. It resonates true with my life as well. Growing up with a single mom, we didn’t have a lot of money and travel was definitely out of the question. Via the pages of a well-worn book however, I could soar to new places and seek new adventures. I have been a closet writer for as long as I remember and have now gathered the courage to try and really promote my dream. Writing and reading go hand in hand in that the more you read the more you learn and the more you learn, the more you write. Good luck with your endeavors.
